Christmas Dinner ’24 & Looking Ahead Further

Looking Back – December Christmas Dinner

Le Marche Francais from Thorndon Quay, Wellington
Le Marche Francais from Thorndon Quay, Wellington

This year’s Christmas Dinner was held at Le Marche Francais, as always
a welcoming establishment for our Christmas dinner.

The food was as excellent as it is every time we visit. The staff were on
the ball and welcoming towards us, too. The socialising and mingling at the beginning of the evening with our glasses of bubbly was most festive.

With thanks to the staff in French from John Dawson and a welcome to Club members from Murray, our evening was set for a great Christmas treat.

  • A selection of petite entrees
  • Mains – your choice of either beef, chicken or fish
  • Petite fours for dessert

And to repeat Wayne’s original instructions on getting there: Le
Marche is upstairs in the furnishing shop quarter of Wellington’s
Thorndon Quay. If using public transport, simply get off the bus at the
old Woolstore stop.

Please Note

  • You are asked to arrive before 7 pm, as the roadside main doors are locked at
    this time.
  • Please come up the stairs to the first floor, where you will be greeted with a
    complementary glass of bubbles.
  • The meal is BYO wine, and your prepaid cost includes corkage and a discount on the meal. During the evening, it is customary to share the bottle of wine you have brought with your neighbours.
  • We are expecting to finish sometime between 9.00 pm and 9.30 pm, but this is a guideline only, in case you are arranging transport home. Please try and stay as flexible as possible.

Please contact Wayne if you wish to attend this event and have not already contacted him.

Cost is $85 per person and must be paid on or before the 1st December, which is the close-off date for this event.

Committee Musings, Nov’24

PLEASE NOTE: We can’t arrive to do the setting up activities any earlier than 7:30pm as we interrupt the cleaner(s) schedule, the cleaners are in the hall until 7:30pm.

Mid-Winter Club Dinner at Le Marche Francais, July ’23

The evening was a success, as usual, with 36 happy diners.

On arrival, complimentary petite onion tarts were handed out with Club’s bubbles, followed by miniature croque-monsieur, before we sat down to start our meal.

The tables were set up for lots of mingling, wine-sharing and chatting.

As a reminder, our menu for the evening was:

  • Entrée 3 mini entrees served to each person
(Quiche Lorraine, petite French onion soup, mini goat cheese salad)
  • Mains
    Beef Bourguignon
    Monkfish with Saffron Sauce
    Chicken Provencal
  • Dessert 3 mini desserts in the style of petite fours

Sadly, local fish supplies could not provide the monkfish, so Chef Vero replaced that with Blue Warehou, which was equally enjoyable.

The evening finished with a nice surprise when Chef Vero served us 5 petite fours to finish the night, all entirely delicious!

Le Marche Francais dinner – July 2021

Wednesday 14th of July is Bastille Day and in keeping with this day, a French-inspired menu has been arranged with Chef Veronique at Le Marche Francais on Thorndon Quay.

This July is the 10th Anniversary of the opening of Le Marche Francais in Thorndon, so this is a triple celebration! A ta Sante! Je leve mon verre a la liberte (Cheers! I raise my glass to freedom.).

The menu etc will be available shortly. However, here is some additional information:

  • Le Marche Francais is situated on the first floor of the Woolstore Building on
Thorndon Quay. Nearby is the motorway overpass and just south of that is bus stop 5492 which is used by bus routes 1, 19e, 24, 25, 26, 52, 56, 57, 58, 60e and 83.
  • When it comes to going home, you can use bus stop 5024 just north of the motorway overpass. So again, just a short distance away.
  • Chef Veronique is French, and her café provides authentic French food during the day. However, she has agreed to make her café available for our club dinner and she and her restaurant will certainly be celebrating France’s National Day with style.
  • This could be the perfect opportunity to bring out a French wine or two from your cellar that you’ve been saving for just such an occasion. And in keeping with the French theme, feel free to dress with a little je ne sais quoi red, white and blue anyone – or perhaps just some French flair!
  • So, watch your Inbox and be prepared to act quickly.
